From February 2026, cigarettes and tobacco products will attract additional excise duty and cess over and above the highest 40% GST slab, replacing the earlier regime of 28% GST plus compensation cess. The Central Excise Act has also been amended to impose a per-stick excise duty on cigarettes, with rates linked to cigarette length.
According to media reports, the cost of a pack of 10 cigarettes has increased by around Rs 22-Rs 25, while premium 76 mm cigarettes are expected to cost Rs 50-Rs 55 more per pack. Revised maximum retail prices are likely to take effect from February 2 as fresh stock with updated MRPs reaches wholesale markets.
Gross sales value for the quarter stood at Rs 4,737 crore, marking a 19.7% YoY increase and a 19.2% rise over the Q2 FY26 quarter. Net revenue rose 15.1% YoY to Rs 1,829 crore, compared with Rs 1,589 crore a year ago. Sequentially, net revenue jumped 41.9% from Rs 1,289 crore in Q2 FY26.
EBITDA from operations came in at Rs 380 crore, up 5.3% YoY from Rs 361 crore in Q3 FY25. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, EBITDA increased 21.0% from Rs 314 crore. EBITDA margin stood at 8.0% in Q3 FY26, lower than 9.1% in the year-ago quarter and broadly unchanged from 7.9% in Q2 FY26.
Cost of goods sold increased 16.6% YoY and 61.6% QoQ to Rs 1,115 crore, reflecting higher sales volumes. As a result, gross profit rose 12.8% YoY and 19.2% sequentially to Rs 714 crore. Gross margin stood at 15.1%, compared with 16.0% in Q3 FY25 and 15.1% in Q2 FY26.
On the cost front, employee benefit expenses rose sharply by 36.8% YoY to Rs 119 crore, while other expenses increased 16.2% YoY to Rs 215 crore during the quarter.

The government has levied excise duty on cigarettes in the range of Rs 2,050 to Rs 8,500 per thousand sticks, based on the length of the products. The move is expected to lead to higher cigarette prices, which could adversely impact sales volumes of ITC and other cigarette manufacturers.
From 1 February 2026, pan masala, cigarettes, tobacco, and similar products will attract a goods and services tax (GST) of 40%, while biris will be taxed at 18%.
In addition, a Health and National Security Cess will be levied on pan masala, while tobacco and related products will be subject to the additional excise duty. Parliament had approved the two bills in December, paving the way for the levy of the new cess on pan masala manufacturers and excise duty on tobacco products.
The new levies on tobacco and Pan masala will be over and above the GST rate and will replace compensation cess currently applicable on these sin goods.
