Total expenses for the period under review added up to Rs 8,889.27 crore, up 11.4% YoY. This was primarily due to higher raw material costs (up 8.4% YoY), higher employee expenses (up 13.2% YoY) and higher other expenses (up 10.2% YoY).
Profit before tax in Q1 FY27 stood at Rs 830.18 crore, up by 4.1% from Rs 797.73 crore in Q1 FY26.
The company has recorded commercial vehicles volume of 48,763 units for Q1 FY27 vis-a-vis 44,238 units in the same period last year, up 10.2% YoY.
Ashok Leyland's medium & heavy commercial vehicles (MHCV) truck volumes (excluding defence) grew 15% while light commercial vehicle (LCV) domestic Q1 volumes grew by 21%. The exports volume in Q1 was at 2,461 units. The power solutions, aftermarket and defence businesses also contributed strongly to the financial performance.
The company strengthened its cash position with net cash of Rs 2,252 crore at the end of Q1 FY27, a positive swing of Rs 1,432 crore on YoY basis.

Ashok Leyland is involved in the manufacture and sale of a broad range of commercial vehicles and also makes engines for industrial and marine applications, as well as forgings and castings.
The scrip fell 1.89% to currently trade at Rs 177 on the BSE.
Total sales include domestic sales of 17,980 units (up 33% YoY).
Ashok Leyland Ltd rose 2.77% today to trade at Rs 170.7. The BSE Auto index is up 1.26% to quote at 64062.3. The index is up 7.19 % over last one month. Among the other constituents of the index, Hyundai Motor India Ltd increased 1.86% and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd added 1.34% on the day. The BSE Auto index went up 22.36 % over last one year compared to the 2.13% fall in benchmark SENSEX.
Ashok Leyland Ltd has added 3.9% over last one month compared to 7.19% gain in BSE Auto index and 1.44% rise in the SENSEX. On the BSE, 77821 shares were traded in the counter so far compared with average daily volumes of 11.29 lakh shares in the past one month. The stock hit a record high of Rs 215.35 on 11 Feb 2026. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 115 on 11 Aug 2025.
In the domestic market, total vehicle sales climbed 33% YoY to 17,980 units from 13,501 units in the corresponding month last year. Domestic M&HCV sales grew 36% YoY to 11,050 units, while domestic LCV sales rose 29% YoY to 6,930 units.
For the quarter ended 31 March 2026, Ashok Leyland reported a 14.21% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,290.70 crore, while revenue from operations rose 17.09% to Rs 17,138.90 crore.
